About the Role
We are seeking a sharp, fast-moving Copywriter who specializes in high-impact, short-form video. Your primary mission will be to write compelling, persuasive, and memorable 30-second television and digital spots that cut through the noise, move the needle, and drive voter action.
The ideal candidate understands how to marry powerful voiceover with arresting visuals, knows exactly how many words fit into 15, 30, and 60-second ads, and thrives in a rapid-response environment. Knows the difference between TV and digital. If you know how to distill complex political platforms into emotional, highly effective video scripts, we want you on our team.
Key Responsibilities:
Scriptwriting: Write compelling, clear, and highly persuasive scripts for 30-second (as well as 15s and 60s) television commercials, pre-roll video, digital ads, and radio.
Visual Storytelling: Think and write with visuals in mind. Format scripts in standard A/V format, adhere to our internal best practices, provide clear direction for graphics and visuals, sound design, and voiceover tone.
Concepting: Be ready to pitch concepts for scripts to CDs and Partners based on individual client needs. Should have a pretty solid understanding of political ad medium and stay on top of current ad trends (political or non-political). Should have no fear of doing something on the edge of the discourse.
Rapid Response: Draft quick-turnaround scripts in response to breaking news, debate moments, or opposition actions without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
Message Distillation: Translate complex polling data, campaign platforms, and opposition research into punchy, emotional language that resonates with the target demographic.
Collaboration: Collaborate with Creative Directors, Art Directors, Video Editors, Designers, Producers, and Political Strategists to ensure the final cut matches the strategic vision.
Quality Control: Ensure all copy aligns with campaign messaging, legal disclaimers, and broadcast clearance requirements.
Skills & Qualifications:
Experience: 3–5+ years of copywriting experience at an advertising agency, political consultancy, media, or campaign.
Portfolio: A strong reel or portfolio showcasing produced 30-second broadcast and/or digital video spots is required.
Political Experience: Ideal, but not required. Previous experience working on political campaigns, PACs, or issue-advocacy groups is strongly preferred.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of standard script formatting (A/V scripts), word-count-to-time-code ratios (knowing exactly how many words fit into a 30-second read), and broadcast standards.
Adaptability: Ability to write across a variety of tones—from positive, uplifting biographical spots to hard-hitting, contrast-driven opposition ads.
Resilience: Capacity to thrive under tight deadlines, handle multiple revisions gracefully, and work campaign hours when the election cycle demands it. Nothing’s precious.
Benefits & Compensation:
Competitive full-time salary and benefits (Salary range $110k-$140k)
401(k) with 3% employer contribution
Healthcare, dental, and vision insurance offered
